2 "Centance" Story

Sam, who was bucking to get off the traffic beat and get into investigations, knew something was off with Ana. He had a Detectives instincts and talk about bells going off! It had only been a year since she had broken up with him, but she seemed like a completely different person. Something wasn't right... he could smell it. It was as if... she didn't even 'know' him and they had spent 2 of the happiest years of his life together.

Suddenly the horrible vision vanished and Ana's memory came into full focus. She knew she had to get Gerald before he got to her. With her best act she convinced the man on the other side of the phone line to meet her in a secluded place where she could spring her own trap. All she had to do was to convince him she didn't remember anything yet.

Gerald hung up the phone surprised that Ana would want to meet with him. He picked up the berretta he had been cleaning and refit the silencer to the barrel. There was something off about this, but he would finish the "project" this time and make sure it was done right. He picked up the cell phone he kept for jobs only and made a call he regretted having to make.

Sam realized he was lost in his fond memories of their time together. While she had plenty of unusual 'moods' he adored her. When she broke up with him, he had not seen it coming. They had disagreements like any other couple, but nothing earth shattering enough to be a deal breaker. At least not that he was aware of. Even when she spoke the words that would crush him, he could see in her eyes that they were only words, and not heartfelt. Yeah.... something was really really wrong. He knew it to his bones now. He decided right then, to start using up his leave time and follow Ana's every move.

Ana's training kicked in as her memory began to recover from the near death experience. She chastised herself for making such a stupid amateur mistake that almost got her killed. She wouldn't make that mistake again. All of those years as an operative for Omega she should have seen right through Gerald's plan, after all she was the Last Line of Defense, the elite operator; there was no one better.

Sam started with routine investigative procedures. Simple background, print & plate scans showed nothing too interesting or alarming. He decided to pay for one of those deep internet searches and was blown away to learn she had been with the CIA as a young gal. She never mentioned anything like that, only that she lived in Langley for a year when she was 25. Now that is something Sm thought... if it is true. But she did say she lived in Virginia. It didn't take him more than a heart beat to call his college buddy Randy who now worked for the alphabet himself to see if he could confirm. It felt like something of a start he mused, as the phone rand for the second time...

Gerald answered the phone before it could ring a third time. He scowled into the phone "Hello?"

"Hey Randy its Sam. What are you up to this evening?" Sam asked. Hadn't talked to Randy much in the last 5 years but that was more about location and Randy settling down with a family.
"Just the usual family stuff. Whats up?"

"Meet me for a beer after you put the kids down?
"
"1900 at Mike's. See you then."

Sam and G went way back their college days at Kent State. G was the smartest person Sam had yet to know, so he figured if anyone could help him figure out what was going on with Ana, it would be him.

Ana was more than surprised when she saw Sam meeting with Gerald at Mike's of all places. Mike's was a favorite among the Spooks and Sam was out of place there. She wondered why the two men were meeting at all and how it was they knew each other. It seemed to her that they were good buddies by they way they greeted each other.

As Ana walked away a Mona Lisa smile painted her face as Mike's Bar erupted with a massive explosion. The pressure wave almost knocked her off her feet. That will be the last time they screw with me she thought as she climbed into her car and drove off.

Emergency vehicles responded immediately. Sam was in shock when he saw Ana grin towards his direction when she heading out of Mike's Place. The explosion had forced him into the stair well and down the stairs to the basement. He was bleeding profusely from his left arm, and he took quite a knock to his head as well as the rest of his body. He surely wasn't going to be able to avoid an ambulance ride, but he absolutely decided he was going to avoid the investigation itself if at all possible. He need to figure out why Ana looked at him that way before she left. Or was it Gerald she shot that glance too. Either was... her timing was suspect, and something deep within his aching body said to hold his cards closer to his vest before speaking to anyone further. Even Gerald.
